January News:

Happy New Year! Considering all the hoops we're been jumping through, this school year seems to be gliding by quickly. February will be the half way mark and Kindergarten in on the horizon. If your child is celebrating his/her birthday, you may send in an individually wrapped treat. This month we will be concentrating on the letters Ss, Cc, Ii, and Mm. Our themes are: the season of winter, cold weather clothing, Martin Luther King and kindness.  Fine motor skills are crutial to a child's academic performance and self esteem. We work on fine motor skills everyday with such activiaties as: playdoh, painting, cutting and gluing, finger excercises, writing, coloring, completing puzzles, etc. In math we continue to concentrate on understanding the relationship between between numbers and quantities up to 10, one to one relationships and recognizing and writing numbers. We have also started addition. Although we read together all year, we have formally began lessons on sight word recognition. Our words this month are: go, like, to, see, and I. Reading to your child improves your child's listening skills, knowledge, attention span, focus, language and vocabulary. Read to your children everyday. 

• Be sure to label all of your child's belongings, especially coats, hats, gloves, sweaters, water bottles.

• We will be going outdoors for recess, weather permitting. Please dress your child accordingly. It is suggested that your child wear sneakers each day.
• Don't forget to send a note to school if there will be a change in your child's usually dismissal. The person picking your child up must have a photo ID.
• Snack time is 10:00 each day. Please send your child with a healthy snack in a bag separate from their lunch.
• No beverage other than water will be allowed during snack time.
• Don't forget to write a quick note after your child returns from an absence.
• Please place lunch and snack in separate bags.
